The Lambeg Project
The Base Drop in Centre is located in the village of Lambeg and is an outreach of Harmony Hill Presbyterian Church. Our aim is to ‘support the young people’s personal, social and spiritual development through professional Christ centered youth work’.
To achieve this, we engage in 10 hours of face to face youth work split over 6 sessions (opening times below); 5 of those are centre based and 1 is detached, engaging with young people on the streets. The main objective of these sessions is to build relationships with the young people and as a result we assess their needs and offer structured projects to help meet those needs. Part of this process involves bringing in trained professionals from various community organisations to run structured programmes specifically aimed at tackling their problems. During our detached sessions, trained youth workers meet large groups of ‘at risk’ young people on the streets wherever they congregate, building relationships while assessing need.
The Base is committed to making Lambeg a safer, more pleasant place to live by reducing the levels of antisocial behaviour in the area. We are the only youth facility in Lambeg and as a result many of the village’s youth pass through our doors. Our average attendance is 40 individual young people per week and 60+ young people through our detached sessions.

The Base Win an LCCC Community Award
Congratulations to John Blair our Outreach Coordinator and to all the volunteers at the Base Drop In Centre who won the Youth Leadership Award at the Mayor's Community Awards 2020.
John says: "It was a real honour to receive the award for youth leadership on behalf of all the team at the Base Drop In Centre. This is one of the highlights of my career and it speaks volumes as to how far the Base has come since we opened in 2007. 13 years ago we opened our doors for the first time to a small group of young people, now we cater for over 60 young people each week providing them with top class youth work activities. These range from diversionary trips to structured, needs based projects. The Base has knit itself into the fabric of the community and this can be seen through the reduction in antisocial behaviour in the area.. We are growing from strength to strength and this has been recognised through this award. Thank you again to all who support us and to everyone involved in making the Base the success that it is.

Ray Gillespie, local artist and Elder at Harmony Hill Presbyterian Church, recently completed an art project with the young people who attend "The Base". The photographs show Ray at work and the completed wall mural. If you would like a closer look call in to The Base during opening hours and John will be delighted to let you view the mural close up.
